The Care Shop Dumfries offers mobility scooter and wheelchair hire for people who need additional support getting around, whether for a holiday, a day out, an appointment or temporary mobility needs.
Hiring can be a practical alternative to purchasing equipment when you only need it for a short period. We offer mobility scooter and wheelchair hire at daily rates, with different options to suit different requirements.
Booking Your Hire
We recommend booking your mobility scooter or wheelchair hire around 1–2 weeks in advance to give us the best chance of having equipment available for your chosen dates.
During the busy summer period, two weeks’ notice is ideal, as demand can be higher.
We’ll always do our best to accommodate shorter-notice requests, but availability cannot be guaranteed. Please contact the team to check availability before making your plans.
All equipment must be collected from and returned to The Care Shop Dumfries. Collections and returns are not available on Sundays or bank holidays.

Collection, Return and Delivery
Hire equipment must usually be collected from and returned to The Care Shop Dumfries.
For customers staying at holiday caravan parks within the Dumfries and Galloway area, we may be able to arrange delivery and collection directly from the park for an additional £30 for delivery and collection combined. This service must be arranged in advance and is subject to availability.
Shop collections and returns are not available on Sundays or bank holidays.
Wheelchair Hire
Transit Wheelchair Hire
A transit wheelchair is designed to be pushed by a companion or carer. It can be useful for appointments, shopping trips, days out and other occasions when someone needs assistance travelling longer distances.
Our usual model is the Phantom Transit Wheelchair from Drive Medical. It has a folding frame, padded upholstery, armrests and swing-away footrests.

• Seat width: approximately 46cm
• Folding design for easier storage and transport

Instore 20
The Instore 20 is a 4mph pavement scooter that separates into five parts, including the basket, making it easier to transport and store. It features a removable battery, an adjustable seat and flip-up armrests.

• Maximum range: up to 10 miles
• Removable 20Ah battery with on-board or off-board charging
• Separates into five parts for transport
